2 Day Will Keating Teapot Making Workshop - 5/6th August
Teapot Workshops
(Level - intermediate. Able to centre 2lbs of clay)
With a special interest in tea and its close association with ceramics, I have spent much of my career perfecting my approach to making teapots of various styles. I previously had a studio in partnership with a teahouse, working together closely to better understand the finer details of teaware and its role in the tea ceremonies of East Asia
I am offering this specialist workshop devoted to crafting a functional and beautiful teapot on the wheel hosted by The Potting Shed Studio. Each student will learn:
- Throwing: Throwing the components of the teapot on the wheel and how to dry the pieces properly
- Assembling: How to assemble the teapot at the proper stage of drying
- Handles: How to add a variety of different handles to a teapot
- Filters: How to make effective filters for their teapot, with varying complexity.
- Form / Function: We'll explore how the teapots form affects its function, and some general rules which can help to make a teapot which is joy to use
- Glazing: How to properly glaze a teapot inside and out
After you finish your pieces (up to two) we will then fire and glaze them in a follow up session. If you are an external client you will be able to take the work away to fire.
Refund available up to two weeks before.
